Luggage Carts: Not Just for Luggage Anymore
Posted on: October 19, 2011
I just came home from shopping where I bought two cases of printer paper (they were on sale) and a case of bottled water. It sure was easy to get this stuff into the car at the store – I heaved it out of the shopping cart and into the trunk – they are of a similar height and that makes it easier for me. But not so easy at home. Now I have to heave the paper and the water out of the trunk and then lug them up the stairs to the house one at a time. That will be three back-breaking trips, thank you.
Fortunately I remembered I have a folding luggage cart with about one-hundred-fifty pounds of capacity and large rubber wheels with roller bearings. So I heaved them out of the car and stacked them on my utility cart. Then I simply rolled my stuff up the stairs. Sure glad I remembered that luggage cart.
It is odd to me that we often really do not see beyond a name. We are taught to “think outside the box” – but do we also “look beyond a name?” If you know what a “luggage cart” is you may have gotten the idea from seeing people using them at the airport to carry bag and baggage as they went rushing by, headed for a plane or a departure point. But why not use a folding luggage cart to carry other things?
How about construction. I have seen the tools that construction workers use to build and shape, hammer and drill – and the size and weight of the tool boxes they carry along with them is astounding to me. That has got to be rough on the back. A tool box or two, or three, would fit smartly on a utility cart and make the perfect gift for the construction worker. Especially one that has been engineered to carry really heavy human loads. Nowadays, luggage carts have been engineered to carry from 80 to 400 pounds – and I do not think it matters that the pounds they carry might not actually be "bag and baggage."
What about your kid? Does he or she struggle out the door in the morning with a back pack that would sway a horse? Why not put their load on wheels? You could make the life of a young person a little easier by transferring their load to a dependable steel folding luggage cart, too. If your child is eight or older, a luggage cart might be the perfect solution to the daily problem of so many books on a kid's back.
I know that there are certain industries that regularly use luggage carts to transport their equipment. Photographers and field technicians both have bunches of stuff to take with them when they head out on a job and a sturdy well-made luggage cart is a real help to them. Especially one with an extra upper level deck which makes a sturdy "table top" for things that need to be "level" as they work. There are even luggage carts with an extra set of wheels on them which click up and down with your foot, to stabilize a larger than average load.
Think about garden pots. Or craft supplies. Or those gigantic coolers that are used for camping or game-day activities. A luggage cart would easily carry those items and some of them could be stacked three at a time. Why didn't we think of that before? Obviously, a luggage cart can be used to carry almost anything. I'm sure you have something I have not thought of, that could be carried on one. Why not make your life a little easier with a useful, convenient, fold-up luggage cart? I think it is worth it and have used one for years. Perhaps you see value in it, too. Who knows, you might even use it on a vacation to carry luggage. Happy Travels!
